What is Legal

There is a great deal of uncertainty about what is legal and what is not when it comes to music use. For example: Do you need to obtain licensing? If you're using a sound recording in a movie, commercial or other visual work then the answer is yes.

If you want to use a sound recording in a visual work, you need a synchronization license, so called because the music is "synched" to the video. You’ve already created your visual work and you want to put some music with it. Then if you want to stream your new creation on your website you'll need a streaming license. We can provide both types of licenses.

Songfreedom will hopefully eliminate some confusion. Simply click one of the questions on the left to get the answer. If there is something you are wondering about that isn't answered here please email us at info@songfreedom.com and we will try to help.

If you are a strictly looking for blanket performance rights for playing music in a public setting please visit ascap.com, bmi.com, or sesac.com for more information.
